The NYOrtho Smokers Apron provides fireproof protection for wheelchair and geri-chair users exposed to smoking materials. Tested to ASTM F2302 standards, it helps safeguard patients and seating surfaces while accommodating a resident’s right to supervised smoking in institutional care settings.

The NYOrtho Smokers Apron is manufactured using a fire-rated material that exceeds the minimum performance requirements of ASTM F2302, rather than merely meeting the threshold. In addition, the material is engineered to remain flexible and durable, allowing the apron to be folded for storage without cracking or degrading over time, which is a common failure point in lower-rated or rigid fire-resistant aprons.
ASTM F2302 is a performance standard used to evaluate materials that provide resistance to incidental exposure to heat or open flame. It incorporates ASTM D6413, which measures flame resistance when a fabric is exposed to an open flame, and ASTM F2894, which evaluates heat resistance at elevated temperatures. Together, these tests confirm the material used in the NYOrtho Smokers Apron will not ignite, melt, or drip when exposed to cigarettes, cigars, or burning matches under the tested conditions.
